A big pack with lots of pockets to stash stuff is a temptation. I have a similar pack (5400 in) and the space seems to summon stuff (mine or someone elses) to jump into it. If/when I do Philmont again, I think I would look for a smaller (lighter) pack. I left basecamp with 52 pounds (everything - personal, crew, food, water) so it wasn't too bad but could have been lighter. At one point I had over 70 pounds due to carrying extra water to bridge a dry camp.
