I don't know if NT is in trouble or not, but from my perspective, I find it
a hard sell
because there is so little information available about their treks. The
BSA does
not provide very much information about any of their HA bases (including
Philmont)
If it weren't for the things put out by the volunteers (like the PSA and
past
trekkers), information about Philmont would be just as sparse.
You would think the Loons out there would put out more information about
what
you do on an NT trek, but I sure haven't seen it. Go to the official
Philmont, Sea Base
and NT websites. Where is the detail about the activities? The variety of
treks?
How do you get a Philmont treks booklet? You have to commit to a trek!
Even so,
the treks book is so dry, it has no appeal.
So, you want us So. Cal. folks to visit NT or SB? Get us some information
about
what is really offered so we can let the boys know *why* it is fun. Just
telling us
we'll have a blast, but trust us as to what you will do, does not cut it
with our boys,
and I would be surprised if it works with many others.

Don Roberts
