I couldn't agree more.

On our second night on the trail, Urraca (and much of Philmont) got a deluge of herculian proportions. Unfortunately, for one of our Scouts, his boots weren't quite far enough under the tarp and they filled with water. (Gortex keeps water out. It also holds water IN!) They sat that way all night.

The next day on the trail, the Scout wore his camp sneakers up and over Urraca Mesa and up to Bear Caves with nary a complaint. I believe that would qualify as a "FIDO" moment. :-)

I believe most of these kids could handle the treks with gear that would kill us old guys. I am always surprised by what my guys will use on trips and campouts without complaining. I know it's our job to worry about each and everyone of them, but sometimes I think we worry a little too much.
