Philmont Staffers are very heavily trained before the first trekkers
show up - certainly not the case with most young Advisors - and with
every passing day even the first time staffers become more and more
experienced. The experience level of a second or third year staffer is
usually considerably greater (albeit more narrow in scope) than most of
the Advisors he/she will ever meet, regardless of age, but esp. the
youngest Advisors.
I have met very few Philmont staffers over my 11 treks who I felt did
not deserve my respect. And the few that didn't were probably just
having a bad day or a bad week. That statement certainly doesn't
extrapolate to the Advisor Corps, however. Though I will concede that
most of the truly horrid Advisors I have been unfortunate enough to
cross paths with over the years were in the 45 - 55 year old range.
