Re: [Philmont]: hiking boots

I found a pair of Asolo boots at Galyans prior to our training hikes that fit and felt verycomfortable right out of the gate. With my liner socks and smartwool combo, the boot was just a tad snug, but not tight. By the time I got a few miles on the boots, they opened up enough to be supportive but not tight. Had no prior experience with Asolo, but they get both my Thumbs UP. I spent about 150.00 for them. I tried on several types and brands before settling with a pair. I also used trekking poles at Philmont, and know that helped with support of my ankles, in addition to the boot. I highly recommend the trekking poles for the adult hikers. I am physically fit, but with previous ankle injuries in my youth, they just aren't 100 percent reliable on things like loose rock, steep inclines, etc.
So much for my 2 cents worth.
