RE: [Philmont]: hiking boots

I find it interesting that they list Vasque Clarion as unacceptable. I
have two Philmont treks and lots of other backpacking on my Vasque
Clarion GTXs. I have yet to get the first blister. I selected that
model after trying many others because of the fit. For anyone with a
wide foot, it is a boot to consider as it has wide toe box. Other
boots, including other Vasque models in wide widths, did not fit as
well.

A good mid weight boot is what is needed for Philmont. Fit and the
socks you wear are as important as the boot's brand name.

See the above link for some boots that were felt by the NOLS to be
acceptable and some that were felt to be unacceptable. This list and
their
explanations may give you some guidance if you plan on keeping the boots
for
a long time.

I am looking for a little help on which hiking boots to take a look at
for philmont next year. I see that all the vasque sundowner boots are
made in china now instead of italy. I was going to take a hard look at
these and asolo 535 tps boots. Has anyone had any experience with the
new sundowners?
