I agree with Gary. When I tried on my boots, the salesperson had me wear a loaded pack, and walk on an incline bench in the store. This gives you a good idea of wht the boots will do under a load. I would also recomend a boot that has some sort of shank built into the sole. Without this you can get terrible stone bruises while hiking. I also prefer boots with GoreTex built in to keep your feet dry. Going upstream into BLack mountain involves many creek crossings. GoreTex is worth it's weight in gold on this section.

My experience - Philmont and other - says don't get hung up on brands or models.
The most important consideration is fit and break-in. Get the best you can
afford, fitted properly (including putting weight on you back) and put lots of
miles on them before you go. A pair of sturdy $100 boots properly fitted and
seasoned will treat you better than a $300 pair chosen for the wrong reasons and
left in the box until your trek.
