The hurricane brushed our area, and hammered Eastern Lousiana. It looks like the Lake Charles area was hit pretty hard. I have heard from some scouters in the LC area, and they report lots of damage. I also found out that our home in Port Neches was spared from wind damage, and flooding. It is very close to where the hurricane came onshore, so I am not sure how this area can be okay. We have tremendous amounts of trees down from the high winds, but most of the homes are in pretty good shape. Looks like we will be getting work crews together soon to help our friends across the river with their cleanup.
I am heading back into the area tommorrow with food and supplies, so I will not be available on the list for some time.

Subject: [Philmont]: Rita still breaking east......
We are praying for those in Cameron and Calcasieu parishes who will
take the eye and brunt of this storm. We are about 100 miles from the border
in Lafayette, La. and are taking some pretty good winds now and lots of
rain. The more East this storm moves the closer it gets to Lafayette. We sit
prepared, flashlights at the ready, Philmont headlights around the neck so
we can find them. Enjoying all the posts about Footgear, helps pass the
time. We have taken all but one tree out of our yard over the years, so just
have one to worry about. It is fairly sheltered by other trees from westerly
winds so hopefully we will be okay. Winds really picking up now, about six
hours till we will be thru this storm...... God be with those in East Texas
and Southwest La....
