Catch some of the flavor of a mountain man rendezvous while at Miranda. Find
out why rendezvous were held and what went on. See demonstrations of the
mountain man way of life and participate in some of these skills and
contests such as "hawk" throwing and muzzle-loading rifle.

Last time I went to Clear Creek, they hang hats on a line for targets for
the youth. My bandanna came home with three .50 cal holes in it (I only
shot once, and I don't recall aiming at my own bandanna). The kids thought
it was great to give me that souvenir.

The staff is dressed in period costume and you can participate in black
powder rifle shooting and tomahawk throwing. At Clear Creek they have more
with a cabin tour with items that they would have used and a trapping demo
in addition to black powder rifle and hawks.

Would someone please be so kind as to describe Philmont's mountain man
rendezvous program, e.g., at Miranda. I'm interested in the activites
available to participants, as well as any demos by staff.
Thanks,
Neal Osborn
