We enjoyed evening campfires at Urraca, Beaubien and Cyphers Mine.
I'd have to say the best was Cyphers because they had the most fun, and to some extent, were the best because of reputation. To be honest, I thought the "stomp" was truly going to be a "Stomp", complete with garbage can percussion and all the rythym things going. As it was, it was a fun evening of singing, guitar playing and banjo picking. A fun evening.
Beaubien's campfire program made me laugh because of the goofy skits and the loud (and bad) singing. Can't carry a tune in a bucket? Just sing louder! LOL Made for a fun evening, too. One of our favorite guys was John from Texas singing "Ring of Fire". He brands boots by day and sings loud around the campfire at night! :-)
The Urraca campfire was interesting because ten minutes into it, the heavens opened up in such a fashion that we considered building an ark. As it was, we all gathered on the front porch of the staff cabin and waited it out. Wow, what a deluge. IN-CRED-I-BLE!

Subject: [Philmont] Best show?
I only saw 2 campfires when we were there in 2003. Beaubien was ok, nothing the boys were terribly thrilled about. It was a little hokey old west humor and music and it was performed pretty well, just nothing that our guys got excited about. The other campfire we saw was at Crater Lake and everyone had a blast, the staff there was crazy and the boys all listed the campfire program there as one of the things they enjoyed the most at Philmont.

While you are describing camps, what do you think are the best campfire shows at Philmont, with music or great stories. I have been to Philmont twice but have only hit one camp with a special campfire, and I missed that one because I had a scout melt down and a boy would not leave his tent. Going back next year I want to try again.
