[Philmont] Conditioning

As a rookie Philmont advisor and crew this past summer my advise would
be to follow what the list advises and fit it into your own personal
history. I joined the Y, continued to backpack the AT with our crew
and carried heavier packs. I wouldn't consider myself any kind of
athlete but as a 42 year old five foot eight man I did well at
Philmont. 40 to 50 pound packs were no problem. My blood pressure had
always been border line, but medication, diet and excercise kept it
normal at Philmont. I did avoid soda, alcohol, sausage, bacon, etc. As
someone on here says, Your mileage will vary.
