Have you considered using the train to get back to Raton?
I get the impression you are coming from the east and will
go through Raton to Alb. If you look at this alternative,
bear in mind that the scheduled time into Raton means you
cannot check in on your arrival day. So if you have a trek
date of, say, July 2, you will want to take the train from
Alb to Raton on July 1 and spend a night there (maybe at
CHQ) with checkin the next day.
We've never done any pre- or post-trek activities as just
about everything you could add on we can do
around here, so we don't see a lot of added value to it.
We have whitewater nearby, lots of peaks, the Sierra Nevadas,
etc. I can certainly see folks from the east having a
different set of priorities.
We did look into Blue Sky and were very impressed with them
due to their close connection with scouts. However, we just
couldn't see turning an $800 adventure into a $1200 adventure
that only adds what we do anyway as part of our regular troop
calendar.
