[Philmont] 30 & Burros

Unless there was a fire after July 4, 2006, Sioux is still standing. There
were burnt trees across the river from Sioux up to the bluff. Mountain lion
tracks were found around the tents the next morning at Sioux. Burros taken
up the road along the creek to Pueblano, so unless you can talk your way out
of taking the burros, you will be missing the hike along the bluff to
Pueblano. Conservation projects after walking with burros to Pueblano kept
some from participating in pole climb, at least earlier this summer. Burros
next make the last segment to Miranda. You must then make it back to
Ewellıs Park and then start out bright and early the next morning for the
walk to Baldy Town to stay on schedule. Most folks were trying to achieve
Baldy Town before 8 AM in order to get an early start on the summit. This
was pretty important at least early on this summer with all the rain, hail,
snow, lightning above 10K. Each year is different. This year in the third
week in June, Ewellıs park spring was completely dry and the bog in the
middle of the camp was dry, too. Caught in a tremendous hail, rain and
lightning storms both days in Ewell, we were able to collect rain water from
the tents and dining fly to fulfill our needs rather than carrying extra
water back from Miranda and Baldy Town or up from the Pueblano streams.
This was a great trek. I would do it again in a heart beat, sans burros.
