Just so there's no confusion, I have no problem at all with crews made up
of people from all over a council. We took one in 2005 and it was, in my
opinion, an all-star group. They bonded fabulously and said some wonderful
things about each other as we sat around the "campfire" pit at Tooth Ridge
Camp the last night on the trail. It's one of many moments at Philmont I'll
never forget.

>>> Some are great, some never bond, sometimes thats a problem, often its
not.

My questions are more about how other council's accomplish their signups
for the council contingent crews to Philmont.

Do you set specific dates for the signup - say a one month period - when
applications are accepted?

>>> Because of ScoutNet's inability to manage events in more than two
years at any time we start signups the January a year and a half before the
trip. Apps must be turned in either in person, or by USPS mail After the
start date we prioritize first come first served. Groups of more than 12
from a single until are not accepted until after February 1. Some years we
drain the waitig list (30+ last year) others we end up with a few. We try
to match promotion to waiting list depth. In an effort to be equitable we
may as partitipants to defer to another year if they are young or withdraw
if they attemded the ranch before again based on our waiting list relative
to our commitment to the Ranch.

If so, when do you do it in conjuction with the lottery sign-up? Before
or after?

>>> I explained the signup process for council's in a previous mail. We
encourage units to participate in the lottery (In November) and approach the
council in January if they miss out.

I know... lots of questions. Thanks in advance for your answers.
