The saw edge on the entrenching tool was for cutting thru roots as you
dug your foxhole. Back in the day, we paratroopers would file a sharp
edge on the other side of the e-tool in case we had to use it for
hand-to-hand combat against the dreaded communist.
Nowadays, I keep one under the seat in the truck next to the hatchet and
folding Sven saw.
But, back to Philmont issues, the way our crew was making side trips
between red-roofs, I might just carry one next time!!!!
