A little more info on the 1948 high point. The official height according to the USGS at that time was 11,711 feet. The official height today is 11, 721. However, when one climbs it in their 60's it sure feels a lot higher than the ten feet from when they were 14.
While some trails at Philmont mhave been improved and others moved to new locations, the trail up either side of Clear Creek/Mt. Phillips is exactly the same today as it was back in 1948. The alleged reason for this is the trail from Clear Creek Trail camp goes through private land and the landowner doesn't want the trail "improved" but left in it's rugged natural state.
One thing for sure when you get to the top, you know you have been there, done that.
A comparison of photographs recently taken and those from the 1950's shows little change in vegetation. There are a few more bushes in the bare spots, but so many still look the same if only a little bigger.

In 1948 the highest peak on the Ranch would have been
Clear Creek Mountain, now known as Mt. Phillips.
