[philmont] Disposable Internal Frame Packs

Perhaps Yoda would say: Fit the pack to the person, you must.

Whether internal or external or old fashioned packboard, fit the pack
to the person. The - only - way to do this is to check out a fully
loaded pack on a shake down to be sure it rides well..

A pack which is well fitted will ride comfortably, pulling excessively
neither on the shoulders or the hip and neither to the left nor to the
right. Well fitted means a pack that is matched to the configuration
of the person and is loaded with the bulk of the heavy weight as close
to the back of the person as possible. This minimizes the "lever
action" of heavy weight too far from the back, avoiding the tendency
to pull you backwards.

Another point is that throughout a trek your load changes - food is
consumed and new food is
picked up. Redistribute the load when you repack so that the heavy
items are as close to your back and your center of gravity as
possible. This will avoid the "pull backwards"
tendency. If the load tends to be in line with your center of gravity
and the weight is distributed across your whole body this will permit
all your muscles to work together to handle the load well.

You should feel that you are one with your pack load.

It would be worth showing Philmont bound Scouts the scene in the Star
Wars movie where Yoda lifts the starship with the power of the force,
a seemingly impossible feat..

The Philmont challenge can be well met when each individual comes to
realise that the power to do so is present within you.
