[philmont] Deadly Crocs

Been thinking about the issue of Crocs being damgerous when worn by children on elcalators.

When this injury is occuring, where are the parents? What are they doing? Have they taught their children the proper way to USE an escalator and to NOT put your foot into the JAWS of the thing?

I think that is more the problem than the Crocs, although I just couldn't resist harping on it.

When I was about 8 6-7 years old (that would be in 1951 or 52) our hometown got it's first escalator. IN fact, it got two sets actually. Both an up and a down escalator.

Back then a lot of stores opnly got them to go up to carry you to more stuff to buy. They didn't care if you got down back then.

But anyway, Bluesteins department store and Sears Roebuck installed escalators about the same time.

I distinctly remember my dad teaching me how to keep my toes, feet AND hands out of the shreader part of the secalator. He did a good job too. Told me if her ever caught me playing aroudn on them it was belt city and I knew what that meant.

To this day I step in the MIDDLE of the step, not on the edge. A little parental coaching goes a long way doesn't it? I think that is absent from todays envoronment as we see in the products we receive at Tenderfoot Investiture.

Now for a fun trip into the past. Remember when you got old enough to browse along while mom shopped and you discovered that you could wakl up the down escalator or down the up escalator and stay at the same level?

With this in mind, I'm pretty sure they do have a down escalator on the back side of Mt Phillips. It seemed like the harder I worked , the behinder I got last time I climed that mountain.

30 hours 'till drive away to the mountains time and counting down.
