I used a similar bottle at Boundary Waters. I just couldn't get enough to drink using the bottle alone. The bottle I used had a charcoal filter that made the water gray for quite a while before it ran clear. I have seen others use the Katadyn bottle but they have always been in a canoe or kayak. I would not carry one at Philmont - there is no need.

I have one supplied by my company for travel in remote countries. You have to suck hard enough/squezze it hard enough that if you're not careful you might not drink enough to stay healthy. (I used it on regular tap water and so the filter really shouldn't have been too plugged.) It was also a lot heavier than just a bottle. (But probably lighter than a purify/bottle combination so that might be much of an issue.) I never used it on the trail. Never used it on a company trip. Guess it was a waste of coprorate dollars (not the first!)...
