Steve,
Our troop uses the Coleman Exponent Xpert stoves
(http://www.rei.com/product/671669) which are lightweight and reliable.
When backpacking we carry one large aluminum pot (probably 6 quart) and
cooked for as many as 14 in a single pot. We put a quart or so of water
in the pot, and cook in a slow cooker bag in the pot (be sure to knot
the bag or use a small piece of duct tape to cinch the bag tight over
the top of the pot to prevent it from falling down in when you load the
food into it). The slow cooker bag makes cleanup very easy because you
can squeeze every last bit of food out of it, and the pot stays clean.
We used this technique with Philmont meals on a weeklong AT trip in
June. We generally mixed everything together sort of "casserole" style
(we all agreed that we couldn't do that with corn and spaghetti), but if
you prefer to keep your foods separate you could just use two pots and
two stoves. On "corn and spaghetti night" we cooked the spaghetti in
the bag, and rehydrated the corn in a nalgene which worked great.

Subject: [philmont] Backpacking Stoves and Cooking Gear
Our troop went to NTier this last year and enjoyed the experience of
cooking
as a patrol while in the back country. We backpack a lot in our troop
but
we usually pair up in twos and do our meals that way with small alcohol
stoves and small pots. Usually the food is ramen noodles, oatmeal &
such.
We are considering changing our gear such that we can cook as a
patrol. Obviously the alcohol stoves and even something like a pocket
rocket won't do for a crew type meal so I am wondering what you guys
have
and would suggest for stoves and cooking gear. We used the peak 1
stoves at
NTier and had like a 3 quart pot for the crew of 9. What other options
are
out there?
