Rich,
Rather than clean than the inside of a water bottle why not use a zip lock bag? Our troop for the last 3 trips has used zip locks on the trail at Philmont and rehydrated each item seperately. No clean up, all the food gets eaten because it isn't served as a one pot surprise. We haven't put anything, including green beans, into the swap boxes.

As for Steve's original request for stove info: read and compare info on REI's website as a good guide. There are lots of good stoves. Just wouldn't waste money on a multi-fuel for a scout troop.
